Crazy, Funny Times

I had a long think about the story I would most like to share.  One of the funniest times I recall (Rosie will remember this well) was Jill’s birthday about 6 or 7 years ago.  Gerry had arranged to take Jill for dinner in the village at her favourite Bistro.  Rosie was staying with them and Gerry said it would be nice if I could join them also, but he wanted me to be a surprise for Jill.  The plan was I would turn up an hour before to join them for drinks in the conservatory.  Things didn’t quite go to plan though.  The night before I had been out for a few after work drinks and wasn’t feeling too great.  I thought it would be better if I turned up earlier at their house, chilled in the garden for a bit and then got ready to go out.  I arrived earlier than planned and parked outside the house.  A panicked Gerry opened the door and asked me what I was doing there.  He ushered me straight upstairs to the back bedroom and told me to hide.  He then shut the door and went downstairs.  I was a little concerned as this meant I would have to hide for a good 3 hours and didn’t quite know how I was going to be able to a cold drink which I desperately needed.  Fortunately, Rosie checked in on me and each time Jill appeared I would have to duck down and hide behind the bed and Rosie would make out she was busy doing something.  It was a very very long afternoon.  Jill however was no fool and she had spotted my car outside.  Gerry told her it belonged to one of the neighbours. I’m not convinced she believed him as she kept shouting out “It’s a shame you didn’t invite Amanda”!  Poor Rosie at one point had to pretend to need the bathroom for a while to stop Jill from coming into the back bedroom whilst I was trying to get ready whilst hiding at the same time.   Eventually Gerry said I could come down and I was welcomed into the conservatory as a surprise for Jill and handed a large glass of Pimms.  We had a lovely evening and I remember it well because as we were leaving the restaurant our phones were all beeping and it turned out that Tom had made a star appearance on Sky Tv minding Arsene Wenger at the FA cup final.  As soon as we got back Jill was desperate to find this on TV and record it.   There are so many other funny moments I could share, and I will miss Jill so much.  She welcomed me to the family, but not just me, my sister and nephews too allowing them to share family Christmases so we could all be together.  We saw Jill just a couple of days before she was taken back into hospital and she was so upbeat, planning cream teas and promising to grow me some asparagus.  An amazing lady who I will always hold dear to me.
